Attorney Zach Balkin

H. Zachary Balkin

Mr. Balkin graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2001 with a degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in business. Mr. Balkin received his Juris Doctorate degree from Golden Gate University Law School in 2007 with a Certificate of Specialization with Distinction in Litigation as well as several other academic awards.

From 2008 through 2016 Mr. Balkin worked for Colorado’s 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, where he was promoted to Chief Deputy District Attorney, the second highest non-elected position in the office. While with the District Attorney’s office, Mr. Balkin prosecuted more than 40 jury trials, including homicides, sexual assaults and other crimes against at-risk adults and children, and drug distribution cases. Mr. Balkin’s trial experience gave him insight, knowledge, and experience not only in how to try and win a case, but also the importance of managing every aspect of a case to maximize the chances of winning at trial.

In addition to his trial duties, Mr. Balkin managed several other attorneys and support staff. Mr. Balkin also trained law enforcement officers and other District Attorney’s throughout the State in conjunction with the Colorado District Attorney’s Council.

Mr. Balkin joined FDAzar in early 2016 to add depth and trial experience to the Class Action group. Mr. Balkin was an integral part of the team which prosecuted a wage and hour class action claim against Hewlett Packard alleging HP failed to pay commissions on time, both during and post-employment. Mr. Balkin is currently a part of the FDAzar teams prosecuting the following putative class action cases: Waleski v. Weyerhaueser involving formaldehyde laden joists installed in homes across the country; Camacho et. al. v Wells Fargo Dealer Services et. al., involving allegations that Wells Fargo improperly forced those with motor vehicle insurance to purchase a Wells Fargo insurance product they did not need; and several current ongoing 401k ERISA cases which allege that plan participants were charged excessive fees in the management of their money.

Mr. Balkin is licensed to practice in the states of Colorado and Illinois, the U.S District Court for the District of Colorado, and the United States Supreme Court.
